I wanted to get into this career because …

I fell in love with Opera at 4 years old. My mum took me and every day I asked her if I could do that. There’s a challenge with this music unlike any other and I wanted to see if it was possible for me.

A typical day in my job …

There isn’t a typical day I’m afraid. It varies from job to job ...or the times I have no work at all!

The best thing about my job …

I get to hide in plain sight. It’s rare that I have to be myself and the characters and situations  that they find themselves in are so much fun to play!

The most challenging thing about my job …

The variety in it. Depending on the work, there are so many different things that I have to be able to do...

The biggest obstacle(s) I’ve had to overcome when it comes to my career was …

Trying to fit into what the classical music tradition expected of me. As I got older, instead of battling to be whatever they wanted, I decided to be me...a much better fit, which allowed me to concentrate on the things I could do...

My number one tip to get into this industry …

This is a difficult one. Practice...learn your languages, understand what might be needed of you that is more than about your voice.

The best decision I’ve taken in my career…

To be me.

The best career advice I’ve received was…

I don’t think there was one particular piece of advice. No, I take that back. I was told at one point, to trust my instincts.... it worked.

The three qualities I think you need for this career are …

  1. You have to be stubborn, (some say not a good trait but it’s  a difficult business to continue in...)

  2. Persistent

  3. A sense of humour!

What I do to switch off …

Balance is so important.

I watch a lot of Sci fi with my husband, garden and generally try to annoy him at least once a day!
